Blackwater Holylight is the debut album from the stoner-rock, all-female, Portlander-quartet, Blackwater Holylight. Citing Pink Floyd and The Raincoats as influences, Blackwater Holylight is an 8-track journey of heavy psych riffs, space-rock vibes and reverberated vocals.
Formed in the post break-up wake of Grandparents, the driving-force (frontwoman and bassist), Allison Faris, declared Blackwater Holylight as her fresh start. “In my last band I was the only female in a group of 6, so I wanted to see how my song writing and vulnerability could glow taking the drivers seat and working with women.”
Through Blackwater Holylight, Faris could explore and celebrate vulnerability: “I wanted to experiment with my own version of what felt ‘heavy’ both sonically and emotionally.” Faris, is joined by guitarist and vocalist Laura Hopkins, drummer Cat Hoch and synth player Sarah Mckenna.
'Wave of Conscience' is a striking track, with distorted guitar and fuzzy organ, Faris's vocals suggestive of Auf Der Maur. 'Sunrise' has a modern surf-punk sound, with girly vocals and heavy-fuzz-groove from the band. The album was recorded by Cameron Speice at Gold Brick Studios and The Greenhouse, and with Eric Crespo at Touch Tourcher Recording in Portland, and is available as a 12” vinyl.
