Malingerer is the debut album from Dublin-based four-piece, Cloud Castle Lake. Formed through their love of Bjork, Radiohead and Sigur Ros, the band named themselves after a short story by Vladimir Nabokov. In which the protagonist finds a place so beautiful he never wants to leave, but his companions torture him and drag him away from his paradise.
"'Bonfire' is based around a pretty simple melody I came up with a few years ago…I kept being drawn back to it periodically and steadily adding and expanding it until it grew out into a full song.” Explains vocalist Daniel McAuley. “[The lyrics are] …based on an old Irish/Welsh myth about rival tribes trying to find out the secret name of the other’s god in order to defeat them." Contemporary choral group Tonnta also perform on the track.
McAuley met bassist Rory O'Connor and guitarist/pianist Brendan William Jenkinson in boarding school in County Kildare. Completing the line-up, newest recruit, drummer Brendan Doherty joined the band two years ago.
Since the release of Dandelion in 2014, the quartet have honed their sound, to something far more original. Produced by Rob Kirwan (Hozier, PJ Harvey), Malingerer is available as a double 12” vinyl LP.
