Matterhorn is the fourth album from this four-piece psychedelic rock band from Grand Rapids, Michigan. Formed in 2013 as Plantains, the line-up is now Nolan Krebs - vocals, bass, Joshua Korf - drums, Ryan Hagan - guitar and Ben Taber - vocals, guitar. Heaters have been building a solid fan base in America’s psych underground. Imagine members of Neu, Echo and the Bunnymen and Tame Impala jamming in a subway - Matterhorn could be the outcome of this hybrid.

Shimmering guitars, reverb soaked ethereal vocals and a krautrock - like rhythm section combine to create an overall psychedelic ambience on these eight tracks. This is melodic stuff, for sure, but always driven by tight drums and bass.

‘Thanksgiving’ parts 1 and 2 open the album in fine fashion, whilst tracks ‘Black Bolt’ and ‘Hochelaga’ have the flavour of the fretwork of Will Sergeant from the Bunnymen. The closing two tracks, ‘Pearls’ and ‘Seance’ both over the six minute mark, allow the band to flex their musical muscles.

Heaters - their ears to the past, their eyes to the future horizon as they drive along America’s psychedelic highway.
