Future Islands have been releasing albums since 2008. It was, however, only in 2014 when the world seemed to take more than a glancing look at them with the release of the ‘Singles’ album. ‘Singles’ received just about universal acclaim and Future Islands were suddenly a very hot potato in the indie world. Hotly anticipated then is the follow-up record ‘The Far Field’. During the silver-selling run of ‘Singles’, the unexpectedly barbarian frontman Samuel T. Herring captured the attention of the world with his expressive live performances, overtly impassioned dancing (can we call it dancing?) and primitive chest thumping, making him one of the most interesting performers around.
The two pre-release cuts from ‘The Far Field’, ‘Cave’ and ‘Ran’, suggest it’s more of the same knife-edge passion this time around. Future Islands have such a propensity of turning a primeval ode to love and romance into something you can jitter around to.
