Time Out is one of the most influential and best-selling jazz albums of all time. Released in 1959, it broke new ground by centering every composition around unusual time signatures, a bold and unprecedented move in jazz. Despite its experimental nature, the album became a massive commercial success and introduced jazz to a wider audience.
Most of the material was composed by pianist Dave Brubeck, whose rhythmic vision reshaped modern jazz. The album’s most iconic track, “Take Five”, written by alto saxophonist Paul Desmond, became a global standard and remains one of the most recognizable jazz recordings ever made.
This special edition is part of the A Tribute to the Jazz Photographers series and features photographs by Jean-Pierre Leloir (1931–2010), the most important French jazz photographer of the postwar era. Leloir documented legends such as Louis Armstrong, Billie Holiday, John Coltrane, and Art Blakey, capturing both electrifying performances and intimate behind-the-scenes moments. His work adds a rich visual dimension to this timeless album.
