Schoolly D – the original Philadelphia O.G. – first dropped his second full-length, Saturday Night! The Album, on his own label in 1986. Widely regarded as a foundational moment in gangster rap, its gritty influence rippled through everything that followed. After gaining momentum, Schoolly D signed with Jive Records in 1987, who reissued the album in expanded form.
Featuring ten tracks of pure, unfiltered power, Saturday Night! is all about raw beats and streetwise rhymes, driven by Schoolly’s signature use of the TR-909 drum machine. A vital piece of hip-hop history, it remains a heavy, funky blast from the King of Philly, delivered with no compromise and no filler.
