On 14th December 2019, London Calling is 40 years old. Released in 1979, London Calling came at the tail-end of punk as we had known it and was released firmly in the time of the flourishing, more artisan post-punk scene. For The Clash, it was a seismic shift compared to previous albums The Clash (‘77) and Give ‘Em Enough Rope (‘78); both straight, unambiguous punk records.

You could argue that The Clash were almost late to the post-punk party, but instead of hitching an easy ride with PIL or Wire, what London Calling did brilliantly was tap into the ska and dub scenes and create something entirely different. Generally regarded as one of the best post-punk albums of all time, London Calling is available on double black vinyl in a deluxe sleeve, or deluxe CD boxset London Calling: The Scrapbook, which contains a 120-page hardback book full of memorabilia, hand-written lyrics and other previously unseen material.
