“I think this is the best thing we've ever done, it's a proper step up.” It’s immediately clear that the Hull band have broken new ground on Microtonic. “The last album was essentially like a bridge between the two albums,” the band say of 2023’s I Don’t Know. “With that one we knew what we were trying to do but with this one we've fully cracked it.”  Bdrmm’s trademark sound hasn’t disappeared by any means, the band's more guitar-heavy beginnings a blueprint and influence on many of the groups breaking through in the here and now, a time when shoegaze is enjoying its strongest revival since its inception in the 80s, but those guitars are now incorporated into a broader, more expansive and varied sonic palette. "Microtonic", recorded with long-term band collaborator Alex Greaves, features guest appearances from Working Men's Club and Olivesque of Nightbus.

The vinyl LP is released via a limited pressing of a marble colour version as well as the classic black version. Both vinyl LP’s include an MP3 download code.

A delicious tonic indeed

Short story:
I Love it.

Long Story:
I got in to bdrmm back in 2020. I had been a big fan of DIIV from there first album and the algorithms sent the Bedroom album my way. The song Happy could almost mistaken for an early DIIV track. For me, that is no bad thing.
The Microtonic album is obviously a divergence from the previous releases with even more of the EDM vibes that appeared in the first track Alps on the I Don’t Know album, proving they are creating what they want and are keeping things fresh and experimental. Remixes by another fav Daniel Avery suggest this evolution could mean good things for the future of this band. Starting off with goit and John on the Ceiling hitting the mark with the alt/electro beats. Infinity Peaking almost seems like one of those songs I grew up listening to. Maybe it has a hint of Depeche Mode or something that makes me feel like the song is already a classic. Snares in another sense takes me back to lush heady 90’s trance in a field somewhere in Somerset as the sunsets. Coincidently, In the Electric Field reminding me of some other chilled part of a Chemical Brothers set… also in a field. Title track Microntonic has an epic build up with a kind of Trent Reznor/NIN riff scraping through it, dropping you in to the smooth Clarkycat track with it’s cosy melodies , continuing for a bit of the same with Sat in the Heat. Lake disappointment being no disappointment at all with it’s pinch of Drum and Bass. A bass part reminiscent of Radioheads Myxomatosis. The Noose wrapping things up with a pulsing soundscape of wobbly loops and keys. This album is a delicious tonic, containing micro doses of some of my favourite music and sounds. Even though I seem to hear within it snippets of other bands and influences, this album and their music stands unique and experimental. Hope they are proud of Microtonic and what they have achieved with it. Bdrmm are the perfect all round default artist that I fallback to at any moment. I have the vinyls and saw them live at Bearded Theory 20224. That gig was even better than I expected. Looking forward to seeing this album live asap. Basically I'm a big fan of their old and the new material and can't recommed it enough. Get some Microtonic in ya.
